Aquarium greenery

Author: Panther Mobile

The following post was made via my mobile phone:

The anubias in my 5ft aquarium are growing faster than we can keep up with. Along with the mother plant this tank has around six large, two medium and fifteen small anubias. The pleco’s love moving them around though!

Fun with dry ice

The following post was made via my mobile phone:

Amy has a box of food delivered once a week, packed with dry ice. My inner science nerd can’t resist dumping it in water to make cool whispy smoke that creeps along the bench

My Mainecoon misty

Author: Panther Mobile

The following post was made via my mobile phone:

Bit blurry, but this is one of my darling Mainecoons, Miss Misty - aka Ninja, as some how she keeps breaking out of the cattery to greet me when i get home, only to break back in minutes later when i go out to catch her. Amy and i have checked the cattery over repeatedly AND she is the only one escaping. Love her to death tho :)

The *REAL* Mississippi Mud Cake aka YUM

Author: Panther

Okay, today I will share the recipe for my #1 favourite dessert (seriously… I like no other dessert more than this and thats saying something). This is a cake that my mother Jacqui Richardson has been making for me for as long as I can remember. It comes from “The Australian Women’s Weekly - Cakes & Slices Cookbook” - pretty much one of the first recipes in the book. Before I get started however I must rant :p

I have been to lots of cake shops, restaurants (from ? to 5 star) and all of them slap the name “Mississippi Mud Cake” on any kind of dense chocolate cake (way to build up my hopes and dash them away!). Mississippi Mud Cake should NOT have icing on top, and its center should not be cakey - but more fudgey, with a very biscuity (and usually cracked) top. Ahwell, Santa isn’t ment to be a fat guy in red suit either but what can you do :p

lol @ ipod nano spoof

Author: Panther

Haha had to post this video that I found on youtube today - a spoof of the Fiest - 1234 Apple iPod Nano advert that plays every 15 mins on tv at the moment. True though… Droves of people are still willing to stick with XP over upgrading to Vista (it’s hard for some to afford decent hardware), but all my Apple fanboy friends (save those who have shared bank accounts :p ) immediately have to purchase whatever the latest Apple product is as a matter of life or death at the risk of losing membership to their prestigious iClique.

Wait a second… which company was it again with the anti-competitive monopoly, price-gouges the market and leaves the consumer feeling like they have no control over endlessly forking over their savings for their next hit?

Seriously… Microsoft Fanboys, Apple fanboys and *insert company name here* fanboys all shit me (just as much as idiots obsessing over Holden Vs Ford). You’re all idiots. Companies exist for profit, none of them are altruistic (despite being the current marketing angle) and are only “innovative” when forced into it by competition. Want to be an iClone/MicroSlave? Lock yourself in for no other reason that feeling like you belong to some group that makes you special. Here’s an idea - if an iPod is the best mp3 player for what your looking for - buy it…. If Windows Vista or Ubuntu tickles your fancy, buy it/download + donate it. But don’t be a slave to these sleezy marketing staff simply because they have discovered the power of cultism. They all suck. That this is a newsflash to some of you is deeply disturbing.

Still, at least it provides Amy and myself with something to giggle over.

Lightboxes Fixed!

Author: Panther

Had a chance today to throw together a quick Wordpress plugin to fix the trouble I was having with the hotlinked (from Blogger) images auto-uploaded from my mobile phone. It automatically caches ALL hotlinked images locally, no matter what kind of tag references them - even if its a link. Dumps cached images into a pantherCache folder within your uploads directory.
Caching occurs when the post is being saved so that your blog doesn’t lag up :)

Anyway for anybody who wants it, the link is below. Its very unsupported though so be gentle with it.

Broken Lightboxes

Author: Panther

As you may have noticed, the lightboxes on the photos posted from my phone are currently borked… Unfortunately blogger.com (provided by google) is the blogging service my phone is tied to, and so I have had to put together a bunch of trixy hobbit scripts to fetch posts as they are made from the blogger account and repost them (inc inline images) into precariouspanther.net which is a Wordpress powered blog. Problem being, the full sized image is blocked from being hotlinked from the blogger page, and in a rather unpleasant way that makes it difficult to simply curl grab a copy to proxy locally. SO. I’ll have to put together a script to parse the hotlink result from blogger and automatically cache a copy of the image locally and subsequently update the original posting with the new local URL.

Anywho, until then I’ll disable the light-boxes so that the images just link directly to the blogger hosted copy. Sorry for the ugliness!
